Broomhill 2
The University of Stirling came from behind to win their league game against Broomhill after the visitors received two penalties.
Both teams started off strong, but it only took 10 minutes for the uni to open the scoring after an excellent breakaway on the counterattack, as Jay Burns beat the Broomhill defence to cut it back, with Finn Moffett finishing it.
Ten minutes later, the referee was pointing to the spot as Duncan Laird brought down Broomhill’s attacker inside the box, with the visiting team slotting the ball into the back of the net to make the scoreline even once again.
The uni stayed in control for the rest of the half, with plenty of time on the ball, heading into halftime with all still to play for.
Broomhill sat off of the students in the second half, with counterattacking efforts looking to be the strategy of choice.
However, they were awarded another penalty as Daniel Mason Bone fouled a player on the edge of the box as the visitors made it two, putting some pressure on the uni.
The uni made an excellent comeback though and managed to score two goals within three minutes, as Sebastian Cassar Torregiani got the goal just before the 80th minute as he knocked the ball into the goal from a corner.
Striker, Thomas Vonk, scored the winner as Jake Service played a long ball over the heads of the players as Vonk found himself between the two centre backs but managed to get enough space to volley the ball past the keeper, as he tried to get a hand to it but didn’t succeed in keeping a hold of the ball.
Speaking on the victory, University of Stirling Head Coach, Chris Geddes, said: “It is really good to get another win. That is back-to-back Lowland League wins to go alongside two undefeated uni league games.
“It is a really good win that has taken us up a few places.
“The boys are really happy, to put that effort in against a good, youthful Broomhill squad was really good.”
