The University of Stirling gave themselves a hard task going 3-0 down before half-time, doing well to get two back but they couldn’t get the third in the end to take a point from the fixture against Civil Service Strollers.
The home team were awarded a penalty just two minutes into the game after Jake Service gave away the foul in the box.
The uni tried to prevail, however 20 minutes later Civil Service got their second and they weren’t done there, as they sent their third in from a header seven minutes later.
The visitors looked quiet for the remainder of the first half, with one shot looking close, but it was too tight and landed in the side netting.
The uni looked stronger opening the second half, with better chances, especially Sam Martin’s shot from distance that just went wide.
Some changes came for the students on the hour mark, as Thomas Vonk and Finn Moffett made way for Nathan Tallen and Liam Trotter.
The subs brought on some much-needed energy, and Martin finally got his goal on the 73rd minute as he finished it at the back post.
Wonder sub, Tallen, made it two just a minute later as he headed the ball in at the back post, as the students looked sharp and desperate to take something from this game.
The uni dominated the remaining minutes of the game with huge chances from Isa Aslanoglu and Trotter, but the Civil Service goalkeeper and defence held up well.
In the end, it wasn’t meant to be as the uni gave themselves too much to do after going 3-0 down, but after claiming silverware during the week today’s result only slightly dampens the spirits.
Speaking on the frustrating result, Head Coach Chris Geddes said: “It is disappointing as always to lose a game.
“In the first half, we weren’t good enough, but in the second half we were much better and maybe deserved a draw.
“After the past week and a half though, it is hard to be too critical when some of the boys have played five games in 10 days, so all credit to them for their fitness levels and recovery away from the pitch.
“Hopefully we can finish the season with a win on Saturday.”
University of Stirling face East Stirlingshire at Forthbank Stadium for the last game of the season on Saturday 19 April.
