Uni Take Point from League Fixture to Go Unbeaten in Three Games

Broxburn Athletic 2
University of Stirling 2

The University of Stirling braved the conditions of Storm Darragh that hit the UK at the weekend to get a point on the road after a tough game against Broxburn Athletic.

The uni had to come from behind twice to take points from the home side, with Finn Moffett and Sam Martin getting their names on the scoresheet.

It looked even in the first half with chances for both sides as the students were unlucky to have the offside flag go up against them aa couple times when they got a break on the ball.

The back line remained strong to deny Broxburn the chance to get close, however the home side broke the deadlock just before 25 minutes, as they found a gap in the defence and got a strong shot away.

The students got the equaliser 17 minutes later though as Moffett received a low cross in the box to fire the box into the back of the net.

Heading into the second half with the scoreline even, both teams looked determined to take all three points home.

Uni goalkeeper Adam Buttigieg was kept busy making crucial saves to keep the students in the game.

Meanwhile, Moffett was busy challenging the Broxburn defence up the other side of the pitch with some excellent shots at goal.

Just after the 80th minute, neither team had managed to get another goal and Broxburn found themselves down to 10 men.

Eight minutes later and it was the home side that took the lead again as the uni tried to get something from the game.

Martin managed to get the students the equaliser in the last minute of normal time after a spate of chances.

University of Stirling Head Coach, Chris Geddes, said after the game: “It was disappointing not to get more as we had some good chances in the second half.

“But in a game away from home against a side who are higher than us in the league, we can’t be too disappointed.

“We had two very good goals and some good performances, so it’s a great point that sets us up for a tough two games this week.”

University of Stirling FC take on Cowdenbeath in a midweek game, away from home, on Tuesday 10 December, with a 7:45pm kick off.
