Moffett rescues point for 10-man University

University of Stirling coach Chris Geddes reflected on a “disappointing” afternoon after watching his side draw with East Stirlingshire in the Lowland League on Saturday.

After a goalless first half at the Falkirk Stadium, during which the University lost two players to injury, midfielder Sam Martin opened the scoring for the students on 47 minutes.

They held the lead until 72 minutes, when the hosts turned home from a corner – and just three minutes later, Geddes’ side conceded again with ex-University player Jamie Penker finishing after a break away.

But their lead lasted just a couple of minutes – with striker Finn Moffett equalising for the visitors.

Moffett continued his fine scoring form

The students were reduced to 10 men with just four minutes left, when Lewis Blane was sent off for a second yellow, received for catching an opponent – but they managed to hold out for the draw.

“It was a bit of a disappointing day all round,” Geddes said. “We obviously lost our winning position, picked up some injuries, and got a red card. The positive was coming back from being 2-1 down to get a draw.

“I’m disappointed with the goals we lost, the manner of them. We probably should have done better, but we got a point – that’s the main thing.”

The University returned to Lowland League action last night (Tuesday) away to Caledonian Braves, and are home to Broxburn Athletic on Saturday.
