Ins and outs: Uni add four new faces for new season

The University first team has added four new faces to its ranks ahead of the new Lowland League season kicking off on Saturday.

The squad has retained the majority of first team players for the 2020/21 season, which will see the students take on title contenders East Kilbride at Forthbank.

Head Coach Chris Geddes recruited four players over the summer break and believes his team is in good shape ahead of the opener, which will be played behind closed doors due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

Spanish goalkeeper Yan Gromov Godik, 19, joins from Northumbria University, who Stirling beat twice last season on their way to lifting the British Universities and Colleges Sport’s Premier North trophy.

Former St Mirren youth defender Marcus Lavery, 18, will strengthen the students’ back line after moving from Paisley-based Glenvale Boys Club.

Meanwhile, the squad is also bolstered by the additions of defender Joel Taylor, 19, and midfielder Ben Davidson, 20, who have been promoted from the University’s 20s team.

Geddes said: “I am looking forward to seeing the boys back playing games after a long period away from the pitch, it has been difficult for everyone.”

Over the summer break, there were a number of outgoings. Last season’s captain Angus Mailer joined Elgin City and Tom Cowley signed for Broxburn Athletic. There were also departures for Josh Emmott and Aidan Peden, while Ioannis Kotzageorgis, Aaron Chia, and Jack Adamson are not currently involved in the first team squad.
